My photos show the colors very well, a soft brown, crisp orange, bright yellow,
baby blue and a Wedgewood blue. What my photos may or may not be showing is the
very pale background shade of the faintest pinky flesh tone. The background is
not clearly bright white as it wanted to show but has a tad bit of flesh tone to
it. The central theme depicts a rather large king's crown, adding a touch of
aristocracy. Up towards the sides of the frame, the background tone bleeds into
a pleasant soft baby blue. The colors are
solid and have proven to be durable throughout the decades. I see only very
smallest signs of paint fading, on this mesh enameled purse, with no significant
losses. The enamel paint has maintained a satiny sheen and glossy feel. The mesh tiles are attached at
all points to the frame and elsewhere. There are no gaps at the hinges and no
structural flaws.
The silver toned frame is delicately embossed and the clasp screams of Art Deco,
with it's solid step down design. The shape of the frame exhibits
characteristics from both the Nouveau and the Deco eras. I have cleaned and polished the
frame and handle for you, gently removing the old tarnish, to reveal it's true
nature. The
interior of the frame is stamped with the Whiting & Davis Company logo and the
purse is unlined. The hinges and clasp are all in sturdy working order. The
bottom is skirted with an eight point Van Dyke fringe and all attachments are
secure and stable.
 
This uniquely regal enameled Whiting & Davis mesh purse measures 6¾
from the top of the clasp to the bottom of the fringe by 4½ inches across the
bottom and the chain link carry handle drops the purse by 5½ inches. I haven't
seen another with a royal crown pattern so please think about adding this
interesting purse to your collection of finer handbags. I know the picky
buyer will be pleased with this example, as the condition is extra good.
